Dome Strength

Have your students compare the strength of domes to other structures, test the strength of eggshells, and design and test their own domes.

Muscle Model

In these activities, students explore how an increase in muscle density (number) or size (width) means the rubber bands “get stronger,” discuss the validity of various models, design their own arm models or catapults.

Bergmann's Rule

With this activity, students use water balloons to describe the relationship between surface area and volume, explain how this relates to thermoregulation, and state Bergmann’s rule.

Advantage of Levers

In this activity, students will explore the basic types of levers, be able to describe the trade-off between a force advantage and speed advantage, and apply their knowledge to create arguments about whether animals are adapted for speed or force.
